Asset Management

Asset management refers to a systematic process of deploying, operating, maintaining, upgrading, and disposing of assets in a cost efficient manner. It is the process by which people and companies manage investments on behalf of others in the financial world.

Asset Management relates to the mitigation of cost overruns and associated risks as well as to the understanding and capturing of opportunities that may arise and result to the desired performance of assets. This overall balancing arrangement must be considered carefully over different timeframes.

This process is the pathway for an organisation to evaluate the need of and performance of assets and asset systems at different levels. Moreover it involves managing an asset over its life cycle through the practice of analytical procedures.

The financial world is heavily associated with asset management and thus its importance is highly valued. Despite most financial jobs do not carry the “asset manager title”, it is widely acknowledged that most financial professionals are evaluated on their ability to manage assets successfully. Such expertise and ability would be the difference between an average and stellar performance.

The overall objectives are the maximisation of shareholders’ wealth as well as the best possible returns for other stakeholders in the organisation. It is therefore imperative that such businesses need to work on their range of assets in order to achieve the best possible returns.
